CHAIRMAN, Akwa Ibom State College of Science and Technology Nnung Ukim Ikono, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has called on Akwa Ibomites, to keep hope alive in the New Year and support Governor Udom Emmanuel, stating emphatically that “Better days are ahead for the state.”

Obong Okon, who represented Ibiono Ibom in the State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2019, in a New Year message he personally signed, expressed gratitude to God for ushering his people in “Ibiono Ibom, those in the Federal Constituency, Senatorial District, the State and indeed all Nigerians into the New Year.”

He urged indigenes and residents of the State to resolve to live together as one and avoid sowing the seeds of division and discord amongst one another.

The holder of ‘Utenghe Ibiono Ibom’ traditional title, used the occasion to commend Governor Udom Emmanuel and the leadership of PDP in the State, for superlative performance and maintaining peace in the entire State.

“From inception of this administration in 2015, His Excellency the Governor (Udom Emmanuel) had left no one in doubt that he is a purposeful leader with the magic touch to lead the people to the land of promise.

“Despite the coronavirus pandemic and harsh economic situation in the country, Akwa Ibom state government was able to meet its responsibilities to the people in 2021, congruent with the available resources; this is laudable.

“I am optimistic that year 2022 is going to be more prosperous for our people. Akwa Ibom State is ours, so we must ensure that we refrain from all the negative attitudes and behaviours that impeded on the growth of our beloved state in 2021.

“I encourage all our people to rise, support and do only those things that will sustain peace and stability in the State. As we all know, without peace, there will be no sustainable development and investment which will boost our economy and create more jobs.

“Furthermore, I beseech all to continue to keep the COVID-19 protocol and guidance into strict obeyance and compliance as new variants continue to emerge.

“Finally, with the exceptional love for my Federal constituency and a fierce commitment to a vision of rapid progress, I wish to assure my people that the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Unity Project which we launched prior to the 2019 House of Representatives election will soon be airborne. I will bring you up-to-speed with our plans soon.

“On behalf of my wife, family and supporters, I pray that God bless everyone in Akwa Ibom. May He bless their jobs and businesses and make 2022 their best year in Jesus name, Amen,” Barr Ime Okon submitted.
