A leading Governorship Aspirant under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state Obong Ide Owodiong Idemeko has once again assured Akwa ibom people that his election as the next governor of the state will usher in an era of quality education for our youths and children.
Ide, who addressed Journalists at his country home in Ibesikpo Asutan yesterday said he is determined to transform the existing educational system from industrial to an information age system.
According to him, “I will transform the existing education system from an Industrial Age System to an Information Age System.
Align policy with MDGs (UN/UNESCO – SDG – 4, 2015, NPE – 6 (2013)”.
He further promised to revamp the curriculum by adding state standard to existing national curriculum and further laced it with Career and entrepreneurship cum technical and vocational education training (TVET) to enhance Real world experience.
The Guber hopeful highlighted that Citizenship education including ethics and morality, community service will take center stage and educators with good innovations will be rewarded.
“I will deploy Formative Assessment System, foster a spirit of “lifelong learning in addition to providing effective support for Teachers by Building Capacity and Rewarding Excellence.
“By 2030 all Teachers in Akwa Ibom schools are to be licensed through standardized testing”.
He further pledged to activate targeted professional development programme, attract the best and introduce incentive pay for teachers rating through testing.
The state under him will also “Foster establishment of Professional Learning Communities (PLC), develop mentoring with “Master Teachers” Programme, build a network of substitute teachers, organize Annual Conference for continuing professional development, promote improve welfare standards for teachers and establish effective Teachers and Administrators evaluation systems” he intoned.
Ide also maintained that reimagining education in Akwa Ibom State requires a strategic and data driven focus that is powered by digitization stressing that he is well positioned to link our education system with the needs of industry and society.
Reeling out some of his experience in the sector, Ide said he had served on the University of Uyo Governing Council, 1998-2001; Chaired the Board of Governors/Board of Trustees, NNPC/MPN Pegasus Schools, one of the best if not the best Nursery to Secondary School in Akwa Ibom State; and Chaired the Strategic Planning and Implementation Committee of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, as well as served on the Governing Council of the Institute, 2005 & 2018-2020.
