Akwa Ibom State Government has disbursed second batch of severance package to ex- elected Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councilors who served between 2017-2020 across the thirty one (31) Local Government Areas in the State.
Presenting cheques to the beneficiaries on behalf of the State Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong, lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for not failing Akwa Ibom people, describing his gesture as a demonstration of his love and concern for the welfare of the people despite scarce resources against several other competing areas of needs.
Hon. Frank Archibong, who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Elder Ini Ikie, congratulated the beneficiaries and appreciated them for contributing their quota to the State’s development.
The event took place on Tuesday, at the Headquartres of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uyo
Reacting, the former Vice Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Mr. Udeme Emmanuel Ukai, who spoke on behalf of the Vice Chairmen, stated that, “Governor Udom Emmanuel has done exceedingly well, deserving the support of all pasts Vice Chairmen who served between 2017 -2022”.
He particularly scored Governor Emmanuel high on infrastructural development, noting the signature projects doting the landscape of the State and for the peace in Akwa Ibom State.
Ukai also appreciated the Commissioner, Hon. Frank Archibong for ensuring the payment comes on time, noting that Frank Archibong has never failed in delivering on any given task.
In their separate remarks ,former Councillors, Hon. Samuel Bassey Isangedighi,ex- Councillor for Ward 6, Esit Eket Legislative Council and Hon. Asuquo Bassey Edet, ex- Chief whip, Udung Uko Legislative Council/Councillor for Ward 1, appreciated the Governor for keeping to his promise.
They described Governor Emmanuel as the man of the people , adding that payment of severance allowance shows he is a father and pledged continued support to his completion agenda as well as his succession plan.
It would be recalled that Akwa Ibom State Government had in August, 2022 released funds for payment of first batch of severance allowances to former elected officers in the Local Government service . Others would be accommodated in the next phase of payment.
