The ancient town of Abia Okpo in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was agog when the State’s Governorship candidate of YPP; Senator Bassey Albert Akpan among other sympathizers consoled Rt. Hon. Friday Iwok as he laid to rest the remains of his late brother late Hon. (Elder) Sunday Etim Iwok on Friday 19th August, 2022.
The Rt. Hon. Iwok represented Abak State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2019.
However, the ex-lawmaker’s brother Elder Sunday Iwok, 67, died on 25th May, 2022 after he complained of difficulty in breathing.
At the funeral, Rev. Udim Wills raised the hope of all the living that “those who follow God’s paths will rest in peace when they die”, according to Isaiah 57:1 – 2.
In a condolence message, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan who said he “received the news of the passing away unto eternal glory of late Elder Sunday with shock,” prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed.
He used the opportunity to offer scholarship to the second daughter of the departed, Esitime Sunday, who just got admission into the University.
Expressing appreciation to OBA and his entourage, Friday Iwok said he was overjoyed and humbled at the level of love displayed towards his family.
He pledged that the relationship will continue and that he will remain firm to ensure the actualisation of the mission of installing a humane leadership in Government House, next year.
He thanked the senator specifically for the offer of scholarship to his niece and prayed God for reward him accordingly.
In the biography, late Elder Iwok was devout Christian who died as member of the United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church).
OBA was accompanied to the event by the state chairman of YPP, Pastor Nyenime Andy; members of the Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign led by the Chairman of the campaign council, Sir Emem Akpabio and the DG, Pastor Sunny Ibuot.
