The Shelter Afrique Housing Estate, which has endured over two decades of neglected drainage systems, is finally receiving much-needed attention under the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
Known for his people-centric approach to governance, the government of the Cleric-turned State Chief Executive is making significant strides to ensure that Akwa Ibom residents live in a safe and healthy environment.
One of the key areas of focus has been the desilting of the long-clogged drains that have caused flooding and deteriorated many roads within the estate.
The Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), under the watchful eyes of Obong (Dr.) Prince Akpan Ikim, is spearheading this initiative in line with global best practices.
Under his Chairmanship, AKSEPWMA has mobilized teams daily to address many environmental challenges and, above all, to ensure that flooding, which has plagued the estate, for instance and other areas for years, is brought under control.
Interacting with newsmen, Ikim noted that the ongoing desilting exercise is part of a broader environmental management strategy that includes vegetation control and waste evacuation across the state.
It was observed that, the Israeli-trained security expert-cum-politician and his team are leaving no stone unturned in their commitment to improving the living conditions of Akwa Ibom residents in line with the Governor’s blueprint.
Their efforts, as observed by newsmen who monitored the daily exercise, are not only restoring the roads in Shelter Afrique but also contributing to the overall aesthetic and environmental health of the area.
Meanwhile, some residents of Shelter Afrique Housing Estate have expressed their gratitude to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, and AKSEPWMA for their relentless efforts in tackling the longstanding environmental issues.
