Akwa Ibom Governor Emmanuel, orders relief materials for robbed NYSC members .

Akwa Ibom State Governor,  Mr Udom Emmanuel has approved immediate provision of relief materials and assistance to the twenty one Nigeria Youth Service Corps members who were robbed at their lodge in Uyo. 

The State Commissioner for Youths and Sports,  Sir Monday Ebong Uko disclosed this to newsmen when he paid a visit to the Corpers lodge for on the spot assessment of the incident.

Sir Uko who said he was directed by Governor Emmanuel to make the visit and urgently provide succour and all necessary assistance to the Corpers described the robbery as callous, unfortunate and unacceptable.  While expressing the dismay of Governor Emmanuel over the incident,  the Commissioner assured that the security agencies are investigating the matter and the perpetrators will be apprehended and brought to book.

The State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs. Nkiruka Ekwe who received Sir Monday Uko and his team thanked Governor Emmanuel for the kind gesture in reaching out to the affected Corpers and assured that they will receive the package from the Governor to alleviate their distress.

Mrs Ekwe however debunked the report of alleged rape of some female corpers during the robbery describing it as false and unfounded as none of them was sexually molested. She thanked the State Government for the support and the security agencies for responding to their distress call.

On their part,  the corpers thanked Governor Emmanuel for reaching out to them and providing the much needed assistance to mitigate their losses describing him as a father of all.

Those who spoke on behalf of the corpers include, Richard Igbokwe, Uzoma Udeh and Miss Akilachi Charles. They all affirmed that none of them was hurt, raped or injured during the incident and thanked God for sparing their lives.

Those who accompanied Sir Monday Uko on the visit are Elder Aniefiok Isaac Nkom, Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey and the Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youths and Sports, Mr Duff.
