Bishop Evans Thompson Udoekaisong, the Proprietor of Shalom Community Orphanage, formerly James 1:27 Orphanage, Ikpa Town, Esit Eket, has said that their donors are destiny helpers to the children in the orphanage.
According to Udoekaisong JP, “anyone who gives to orphans is doing the work of their lost fathers and mothers.”
The man of God who spoke to TheHILL reporter in Esit Eket, prayed to the Almighty God to bless public-spirited persons and organisations that have in various ways supported the orphanage since its inception to date.
His words: “We are so grateful for every support and generous donations from the public and want them to know how much these children appreciate their benefactors. This home is almost entirely funded by public donations so it is only the prayers for uplift from these young ones that we have for those who have helped us, including you in the media. Please, wherever you would read this message, be rest assured that we will not forget to include you in our prayers and God will hear our cry and shower blessings upon your life and the work of your hands.”
Bishop Udoekasiong who is in his late 70s said the orphanage, which was founded January 15, 2008, was the first non-governmental indigenous orphanage approved by the Akwa Ibom state government in the area.
“This home has in the past 14 years rehabilitated, reformed and re- integrated children who have had to overcome their traumatic experiences such as abandonment, rejection, abuse and even modern day slavery.
“Being the first private orphanage to be registered by the State Government in this area, our orphanage has blazed the trail of institutional care of vulnerable children. With an outstanding network of support, excellent facilities, a dynamic team of social workers and caregivers, the orphanage has raised hundreds of children who have been able to overcome their negative childhood experiences and blossomed into young adults ready to make their mark in the world,” he explained.
Bishop Udoekaisong hinted that James 1:27 Orphanage changed her name to Shalom Community Orphanage during their documentation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) added, they have received numerous awards for their demonstration of excellence in charity and child welfare.
Meanwhile, the proprietor has appealed for more support to cater for the pressing needs of the orphanage which he said included, food stuff, clothing, medical care and education.
He beseeched to organizations, groups and individuals to visit and assist the Orphanage and its Skills Acquisation Centre, which is located at 6 Court Road, Ikpa Town, Esit Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
