As local government areas in Akwa Ibom received rice and garri palliatives across the 31 Council areas, indigent residents have showered praises on Governor Umo Eno for ensuring a transparent process that has allowed them to benefit from the initiative.
Recall that the state initially received 24,000 bags of rice from the federal government, but Governor Eno doubled the supply to 48,000 bags.
These were distributed to all gazetted villages across the ten federal constituencies, with each village receiving 20 bags of rice and two bags of garri.
At Nsit Atai in Uyo Federal Constituency, the Transition Committee Chairman, Lady Emem Ibanga, expressed gratitude to both the Governor and the federal government for bringing joy to the people.
Lady Ibanga emphasized that the distribution process would be transparent, with village heads and village council officers clearly instructed on their roles.
The Chairperson also encouraged all sons and daughters of Nsit Atai to embrace the Governor’s “Back to Farm” initiative, stressing the importance of self-sufficiency in food production.
In their reactions, various community leaders expressed their appreciation. A leader of women; Christiana Sunday Udo thanked the Governor for his kindness and prayed for blessings upon him and his team.
Chief Mfon Essien of Odot 2, and chairman of the Council of Chiefs in Nsit Atai, pledged to ensure that the Governor’s generosity reaches all his subjects.
On his pat, the village head of Ikot Akpabio, while speaking on behalf of other village heads, expressed happiness over the rice and garri provided by both the federal and state governments to combat hunger in the state.
In Ibesikpo Asutan, the Transition Chairman, Mrs. Akon Michael reported a smooth distribution process, with all 79 villages receiving their shares. She thanked Governor Eno for his compassion towards the people.
“It is not the first time we have received rice from the State Governor, and we are happy with our Governor,” she said.
Village heads in Ibesikpo Asutan, including Eteidung Emmanuel James and Eteidung Idiong Okon Usanga, promised to mobilize support for the Governor in return for his generous actions.
