The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away, as confirmed by sources.
It was exclusively gathered that Ayilara died early Thursday morning, 29 August 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja.
According to reports, Ayilara underwent surgery for prostate cancer on Wednesday, 28 August 2024, but sadly, he succumbed to complications early the following day.
Sources close to the late Commissioner mentioned that he appeared to be in good health just days earlier, on Monday, 26 August 2024, during the pull-out ceremony of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Yetunde Longe.

A committed Muslim, Ayilara previously served as the Acting Commissioner of Police for Lagos State before being appointed to the Akwa Ibom role in a substantive capacity.
