Cash Crunch: FRUSTRATED UYO RESIDENTS STORM CBN

Aggrieved and frustrated residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Wednesday stormed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office, Udo Udoma Avenue, to register their displeasure over the rejection of old Naira notes and unavailability of new Naira.

TheHILL reporter gathered that, many of them claimed to have so many of the old notes in their possession.

The frustrated residents included: students, traders, civil servants, businessmen and women who said, they had visited their various banks to exchange the old notes for the new ones but were turned back by the officials.

Our paper can report authoritatively that all old N200, N500 and N1,000 had since 10th of this month seized to be a legal tender. Citizens however, have between today and 17th of this month to dump all their ‘expired’ naira notes for new ones and they must follow the CBN’s procedure.
