Demolition Exercise: AKWA IBOM WORKS COMMISSIONER DISPLAYS KINDNESS TOWARDS PROPERTY OWNERS

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Eno Ibanga, on Monday, supervised the demolition of illegal structures obstructing ongoing work on expansion of the Airport Road, in Mbiabong axis of Oron Road, Uyo.

However, to the admiration of everyone present at the scenes, Prof. Ibanga patiently waited for owners of the illegal structures to remove their wares and furniture before commencing the demolition process.

This display of rare kindness and compassion by the Commissioner drew Commendations from bystanders, who described him as “a simple and God fearing man”.

Meanwhile, the exercise was carried out after payment of due compensations to owners of affected property, by the state government and issuance of notice to vacate, to enable uninterrupted work on the road project.

It was also noted that some of the affected structures were newly erected after work on the expansion project had commenced and demolition carried out on other surrounding structures.

The Works and Fire Service Commissioner, however, handed down strict warning to the people, against construction of illegal structures on government right of way, explaining that defaulters may not receive such soft treatment at another time.

Prof. Ibanga supervised the demolition exercise in company of the Managing Director of the construction firm handling the road expansion project, Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko.
