Forty-Five women in Mbo LGA on Thursday graduated from a 3-day Dakkada Women Entrepreneurship and Mentorship Programme (DWEMP) organized by the Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management, Office of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
The training program which was coordinated by the Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Mrs. Lydia Udoh, gave the women an opportunity to acquire vocational skills in Cosmetology, Soap Making, Catering, Confectionery, Decoration, Tailoring, and Hairdressing.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Lydia Udoh said DWEMP was part of Governor Udom’s commitment towards improving the entrepreneurial capacity of women across the 31 Local Government Areas of the state, adding that the goal of the program was to enhance knowledge and create opportunities for women in the rural communities to develop and sustain their entrepreneurial skills.
She said DWEMP is committed to ensuring that Akwa Ibom women become entrepreneurs in line with the job creation and Dakkada philosophy of Governor Udom Emmanuel, urging the women to be business conscious while contributing to the growth of their communities by developing the new skills they have acquired.
Special Guest at the event and Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, represented by the Leader of Mbo Legislative Council, Hon. Edet Oboho, said that skills, knowledge, and ideas drive innovation, productivity, and economic growth, reasons the Governor is doing everything humanly possible to create sustainable opportunities for men, women, and youths in rural communities.
He congratulated the graduates and expressed optimism that the skills acquired by them would unlock their doors of financial independence and economic prosperity.
Goodwill messages were read from the Chairman of Council, Hon. Asuquo Eyo, who was represented by his Vice, Mary Ating, female councillors, women and youth groups.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of cash support from Dr. Ekuwem, certificates, and starter packs to all graduates of the program by the Coordinator, Mrs. Lydia Udoh.
