Leaders of Uyo Senatorial District in Akwa Ibom State under the aegis of Uyo Senatorial District Leaders Forum (USDLF) have called on the people of the State to insist on electing credible leaders as they go out for the polls on February 25 & March 11 elections .
The group in a statement made available to the media on Wednesday in Uyo and signed by the Leader , Obong Ukpong Dan Umoh in parts reads ”’It has become necessary to draw your attention to the fact that one of the greatest gifts of our democracy by the current federal government is that of the new technology, Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) in the conduct of the 2023 elections. The valuable lesson In the 25th February and 11th March, 2023 elections is that power now resides with the people as the people’s votes will count”. .
The Statement adds ”This is a great opportunity for our people to vote for credible leaders at all levels who have antecedents of service delivery to the people, compassion and positive disposition towards the people.This decision of who to vote in these elections must be taken conscious of zoning , justice, equity and fairplay as is peculiar with the Governorship position in Akwa Ibom State where Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal Constituency are due to produce our incoming Governor this 2023”’.
Obong Umoh went further ”As credible leaders of character and influence we must sustain our strength of being fair to all and following the path of decency , decorum and justice hence the need to butress our overwhelming Support for Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal Constituency to produce the next Governor of our State. In the circumstance Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, CON , YPP Governorship Candidate whom we have already endorsed as the Governor to be voted for in the election. All the ibibios of Uyo Senatorial District and indeed the entire State should please vote him to power”
The group also pointed out that ”We must know that these elections are very different from previous elections as it would be largely participatory and devoid of violence as such we should all shun apathy and use our PVCs to elect men of conscience and character to power”. .
The statement frowns at how the people have been shortchanged before now ”The people have severally been deceived, cheated, scorned, bullied, disenchanted and possibly disenfranchised sequel to the approach to leadership recruitment in times past and all these must be corrected with these elections so that these leaders will owe their ascendency to power to the
people thereby doing their best while in office to bring to the table dividends of democracy. Let us see these elections as a task that must be done for a better Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large”.
