Petroleum product stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State have praised Governor Umo Eno for his proactive measures in resolving the recent fuel crisis in the state.
The commendation followed a meeting on Wednesday between the Governor and leaders of key unions in the petroleum sector to address the issues that led to a ban on the sale of petroleum products.
During the meeting, it was disclosed that two petroleum trucks were confiscated by federal agencies in Mbo Local Government Area and have been detained since May 2024.
While the matter, according to a press statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, falls outside the state’s jurisdiction, Governor Eno had directed the Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, General Koko Essien Rtd, to engage with relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
The Governor had also expressed his commitment to exploring the establishment of a petroleum depot in Akwa Ibom State to prevent future crises.
Meanwhile, Union leaders, including representatives from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Petrol Tanker Drivers Association (PTD), and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), thanked the Governor for his intervention and immediately lifted the ban on petroleum product sales. They promised to make premium motor spirit (PMS) available to the public.
