The Nelson Mandela hall of the Watbridge Hotel and Suites, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Sunday, was filled to capacity when it hosted this year’s coronation ceremony of the Miss Style Nigeria Beauty Pageant amid glitz and glamour. Tagged “The making of the girl entrepreneur”, the grand finale featured beauty parade, music, dance, comedy and presentation of prizes.
20-year-old Cross River State representative, Precious John Dominic, was crowned the 3rd Miss Style Nigeria in the star studded event. She took home a car and other cash prizes, including one year wardrobe allowance, modeling contracts and many more.
The 200-level student of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the University of Uyo took over the crown from Queen Christy Ukeme, who won the previous edition.
TheHILL understands that the event kicked off with over a dozen contestants, but they were pruned to seven finalists.
The ‘Wow, Wow, Wow History’ edition of Miss Style Beauty Pageant had Miss Rwanda 2020; Naomie Nishimwe and the President of Rwanda Film Federation, Willy Ndahir alongside Lagos-based Mr. Daranijo Sinari, seated as Judges at the Grand finale.
The brilliant and delectable Precious Dominic was eventually crowned Miss Nigeria 2022, while
Miss Imo State, MaryAnn Okparake, emerged first runner-up and went home with an industrial sewing machine alongside cash prize; and Miss Anambra, Emmanuella Okolie; Second Runner-up who carted a complete makeup kit plus a cash prize.
The new beauty queen had expressed gratitude to God for the feat even as she dedicated her victory to her family and friends who supported her and promised to fly the flag of Miss Style Nigeria with zest throughout her reign.
While crowning the new queen, the outgoing Miss Style Nigeria, Christy Ukeme, eulogized the President of Miss Style Nigeria, Princess Hilda Okon, for the platform and everyone for their support through her one-year reign even as she promised to continue several projects she initiated during her reign.
In her address, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Miss Style Nigeria, Princess Hilda Okon said the platform is not just to empower the girl-child, but also to instill in them, the rich African cultural values and societal ethics.
She said if young women entrepreneurs have same access as men to training, information and resources, they will become financially independent and in turn, assist in taking care of their homes and helping the needy in the society.
Princess Okon said in the last three years of Miss Style Nigeria beauty pageant, she has been able to empower 28 young women with viable skills and provided more than 30 others, with employment opportunities.
The sponsor of the beauty pageant and Chief Executive Officer of Onic Entertainment Company, Mr. Joe Ugonna, said his organization, Global Modeling Concept, which was established in 2015, has been managing careers for many up-and-coming talents, presenting them with opportunities to showcase their potential to the world.
He said in 2016, Global Modeling Concept, collaborated with an Atlanta-based management and promotion company to present a Miami, Florida event entitled “Coming to America International Fashion Show and Tour” where top designers showcased their products through Nigerian models.
Mr. Ugonna said his organization is out to inspire more Nigerian models to rise and shine as well as help create awareness about social ills and fight against human trafficking in Nigeria and Africa.
Meanwhile, TheHILL can authoritatively report that Miss Style is a national beauty pageant in Nigeria aimed at promoting the rich cultural legacy of the Country and enabling young women in Nigeria showcase their beauty, brain, dignity, sense of fashion and talents to the world.
The pageant also creates a platform for development, empowerment and re-integration of the girl-child and less- privileged ones to become relevant to themselves and the society.
