GOV EMMANUEL FLAGS OFF SOFTWARE DEVT TRAINING FOR 100 AKWA IBOM YOUTH

A Software Development on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), programme for 100 unemployed and self employed youths across the 31 local government areas of the state has been flagged of by Governor Udom Emmanuel, at the State Secretariat Annex, Udoudoma Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The State Chief Executive, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, reiterated that the programme was part of his administration’s commitment to building the next generation of technology professionals to generate employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship in the state.

The ICT development programme has commenced in earnest and witnessed an unprecedented turn out of applicants indicating interest to undergo the intensive six months training course. At the end of training, beneficiaries would be provided with starter packs to demonstrate a strong dedication to youths’ empowerment and getting them the much-needed skills set for survival in the 21st century and beyond.

While enumerating numerous training programmes of his Government supervised by the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Development, the State Chief Executive observed that Dakkada Skills Bootcamp 2021 is aimed at using technology to drive the economy of the State as it is envisioned to make Akwa Ibom the technology frontier in Africa.

He charged the trainees to utilize the opportunity to equip themselves with cutting-edge digital skills for the emerging digital economy.

In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Development, Mr Mark Umoh, applauded Governor Emmanuel for the bold initiative aimed at harnessing intellects and providing employment for teeming youths of the State.

He urged the beneficiaries to remain steadfast and take full advantage of the programme to impart knowledge and bring about the generation shift the Udom Emmanuel administration hopes to achieve in making Akwa Ibom State the Hub for tech infusion, incubation and acceleration of tech start ups in the whole continent.

On his part, the leader of the Consulting firm in charge of the training; Tini Top Techniques, Abuja; Ajao David Adewale, hinted that the youth would be trained in different areas of Information, Communication and Technology. The areas include: Network and System Administration, Front-End and Back-End Web Development, Data Science and Data Analytics, Networking Engineering and Cyber Security, among others.

Speaking with our reporter, one of the beneficiaries from Eastern Obolo LGA; Mr. Godspower Nsefi, while thanking the State Government for the programme said, “the training is timely and crucial at this moment when technology has taken over everything.”

He promised to take the training seriously and assured of setting up a technology hub in his Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, the flag off ceremony which held at the State Secretariat Annex, Uyo, had the presence of the Commissioner for Science and Technology; Dr Imo Moffat, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Infrastructure; Imeh Okon, highly reputable ICT Stakeholders in Nigeria, Permanent Secretaries and Directors from the Ministries of Labour and Manpower Development as well as Science and Technology, among others.
