About 110 female entrepreneurs on Thursday graduated from the Dakkada Women Entrepreneurship and Mentorship Programme (DWEMP) in Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State.
The entrepreneurs who were selected across party lines, regardless of the social or political class, from Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, and Obot Akara LGAs underwent a 3-day intensive skills acquisition training in Confectionery, Cosmetology, Soap making, Hair Styling, Make-up, and Tailoring.
The graduation ceremony, which was held at Council Hall, Ikot Ekpene, had in attendance Mrs. Umoh Anthony Luke – wife of Essien Udim LGA Chairman, Mrs. Ekarika -Vice Chairman Essien Udim LGA, Leaders of Essien Udim and Obot Akara Councils, Secretary of Council, Ikot Ekpene LGA, and Obongawan Abigal Akpan-PDP senatorial women leader.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of DWEMP and Special Assistant to Governor on Marketing and Brand Management, Mrs. Lydia Udoh, said the initiative was organized in line with Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Completion Agenda and the Dakkada initiative, adding that DWEMP is targeted at helping women in rural communities to achieve economic sustainability and entrepreneurial development by equipping them with the necessary skills to ensure their participation in the economic development of their various communities.
She applauded the resilience of the women who held on throughout the stringent training programme and assured them of Government’s readiness to partner Akwa Ibom women for sustainable economic development.
The high point of the event was the presentation of certificates and start-up packs to the Graduands.
DWEMP has recorded remarkable success with similar training in Ibeno, Ukanafun, Mkpat Enin, Mbo, and UrueOfong/Oruko LGAs and is poised at ensuring that all the 31 LGA’s are covered inline with the Governor’s completion agenda.
