An Akwa Ibom entrepreneur and CEO of Shade Cover Group, Engr. Don Bassey, has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for investing massively in the power, security and other sectors, describing the huge investments as a major boost in his industrialization agenda.
Speaking, Wednesday with newsmen at the corporate headquarters of his company in Uyo, Engr. Bassey said the improvement in electricity supply has been of immense benefit to his business.
“I want to appreciate Governor Emmanuel, because apart from ensuring that Akwa Ibomites and those doing business in the State are secured, he has invested massively in the power sector. As someone that knows, the governor is not even done in the sector despite the hallelujah song we’re singing, he is working extensively towards ensuring 24 hour power supply in the state. It’s unfortunate to note that some people were trying to frustrate his efforts but God always win. So, on the whole, the governor has gladdened the hearts of business people in the State with guaranteed security and power supply and other provisions; he deserves a thumbs up.
“You see, we use a lot of power in this our business, in fabrication, welding and finishing, we need a lot power. As we speak, we no longer run generator from morning to night as it was the case before now. With the state government’s investment in the power sector, this has given us some leverage”.
Speaking further, Engr Bassey also lauded the State Chief Executive for the existing peace in Akwa Ibom, saying the quiet nature and tranquility in the State has provided a win-win situation for government and businessmen and women operating in Akwa Ibom.
“Once again, I want to thank the State Government for all the things they have done in ensuring enabling environment for us the business people. The truth is that, we can only do our business when the environment is right and we can only contribute to the economic development of the state when we do our businesses; because it is only when we do our businesses that we will be able to pay taxes and if we don’t do business we can’t pay taxes, that is why is said it’s a win-win situation.”
The Shade Cover boss hinted that his company has over the years employed a large number of Akwa Ibom indigenes in its employ, and has offered human capacity development to over a hundred and fifty in his line of businesses.
The Nsit-Ubium born business mogul used the opportunity to advise youths to remain focused, be diligent in their endeavours and shun acts capable of distracting them from their goals, saying, “I would like to add that our youth learn to do the right thing at the right time and shun acts detrimental to their future.”
