The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has extended heartfelt felicitations to the former President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Babangida, on the occasion of his 83rd birthday.

In a birthday message personally signed by the Governor and released through his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, Governor Eno expressed profound gratitude for the former President’s pivotal role in the creation of Akwa Ibom State in 1987; a decision that ended over six decades of struggle and agitation by its forebears.

Governor Eno emphasized that “our people will remain grateful for the audacious decision you took to create our dear State,” recognizing it as a fulfillment of the aspirations and prayers that dated back to the 1920s.

The Cleric-turned State Chief Executive further reflected on how the gift of statehood has transformed Akwa Ibom into a “shining city on a hill,” echoing the words of John Winthrop, popularized by former U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

In his message, the Governor lauded the progress made by Akwa Ibom since its creation, noting that across various facets of life, the people of the state have “Arisen,” all thanks to the identity bestowed upon them by General Babangida’s historic decision.

Concluding his message, Governor Eno offered prayers for the former President’s continued good health and sound mind, wishing him a joyful birthday celebration.
