The fortune of the people of Nsit Ibom is soon to change for the better as the governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Senator Bassey Albert (OBA) has promised to establish a health centre there within the first 100 days in office.
He said this while addressing the people of Asang Court area of Nsit Ibom on November 1, 2022, during the YPP Ward-to-ward governorship campaign (Day 2).
Both at the palace of the Paramount ruler of Nsit Ibom, HRM (Dr.) Manasseh Akpan and at the campaign ground at Obotim Ikot Ekong, OBA promised that his government will focus on health, education, economic and social development , among others.
“You need a community health center, we have developed in our blueprint to build community health center. Since I built those structures during my tenure as Chairman of inter-ministerial, they have almost gone moribund. When I come in as Governor, we will develop the needed infrastructure to care for the health of our people”, he assured.
He also pledged to increase the stipends of the royal fathers, while also instituting programmes for women and children: “We will build markets and empower our women with funds to run businesses. Your children will be given scholarships, even as I’m standing, I have trained 481 students through universities”.
He condemned the poor treatment of serving civil servants and neglect of the retired ones.
“I was a commissioner for Finance and Budget in this state for almost eight years. Under IPSAS (International Public Sector Accounting Standards) there is a subhead for pensions and gratuities. After you have served your state, you are supposed to be paid your gratuities. The retired civil servants are not paid, that is why our retirees are dying everyday”.
He wondered why a government that has generated over N170 billion through IGR has not paid entitlements, owing over N38bn in gratuities.
He berated the government for not being sincere with the so – called Industries in the state.
“They said they have built industries, go to Ekom Iman, the place is now a church, is that Industry? Under my watch, I will get gas to every industrial layout in this state. As former chairman of gas in the Senate, I have the ability to do that”.
While addressing the crowd, Chairman, Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Council, Sir Emem Akpabio, asked the people to reject the PDP and vote all YPP candidates, as YPP remains the only party that will serve the people.
He assured the people that OBA, who has performed very well as a senator, will do more as a governor.
Apostle Nyeneime Andy, chairman of YPP in Akwa Ibom, in his speech urged all to vote for all the candidates in the YPP since PDP has failed the people.
In the same vein, the Director – General of Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Council, Pastor Sunny Ibuot expressed appreciation for the love Nsit Ibom people have for Senator Bassey Albert.
“He had just commissioned water project for you, he has also built school for you. He did not disappoint you as a Senator, so he will not disappoint you as your Governor”.
Chairman, Akwa Ubok Abasi Campaign Council in Nsit Ibom, Otuekong Anietie Ekong earlier in his welcome address, appreciated OBA the scholarship Nsit Ibom children, among other laudable projects. He also acknowledged that it was Nsit Ibom child that won OBA’s 50th Anniversary Essay competition.
The senator later commissioned a modern solar-powered borehole, which he facilitated in Obiokpong Nsit community.
“Water is source of life. I have also built market and school here. I can assure you that there will be no hunger, no one will intimidate you. You will not cry. Vote for the fresh leaves, protect your votes and then you will rejoice when we win”.
The village head Eteidung Aniefiok Ekot, in appreciation, said first government project ever the entire village since 1999 came from OBA. He expressed hope that as a Governor, OBA will perform better.
“If you could do this as a Senator, what happens when you become Governor next year? We want you there. Please when you get there, continue to make us proud”, he urged.
