Chief of Staff to Governor Udom Emmanuel and Chairman of the State Government Verification Panel; Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, has eulogized the Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Prof. Nse Essien, for his ingenuity in embarking on the construction Housing Estate for staffers of the State-owned tertiary institution.
The estate located at Ikot Ayan, Mkpat Enin LGA has 79 units of two and three bedroom flats.
Inyang-Eyen who visited the project site, Tuesday, alongside members of the Verification Panel also inspected some Security Villages that needed urgent attention in Mkpat Enin and ONNA LGAs.
The CoS said his boss; Governor Emmanuel, had mandated the Visitation/Verification Panel to diligently assess and intervened on matters affecting AKSU.
The elated Prof Essien who took the Chairman and members of the panel around the site, said that the staff housing estate, which would be completed before end of the year, was built for future ownership by staff after servicing the mortgage facility over a 15-year period.
He said that there were terms and conditions for the staff for housing project, adding that the project was organised through the institution’s cooperative.
The vice chancellor commended the Governor Udom Emmanuel-led administration, for prioritising the needs of the institution.
He dismissed fears of sabotage from the host community, explaining that compensation for the site of the housing had been fully paid.
On her part, the State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, Also speaking, the Honourable Commissioner for Education Mrs. Idongest Etiebet thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for ensuring that while students were enjoying conducive learning environment, the staff were also being given a good place to stay.
She said Governor Emmanuel was determined to reposition the education sector of the State and lauded the Professor Essien led University administration for the Staff Housing Initiative.
In the Inyang-Eyen led Panel were: the Commissioner for Education; Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, her counterpart in Labour and Manpower Planning, Chief Sunny Ibuot, the State Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Sunny James and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mrs Imuk who doubles as the Secretary of the Panel.
