Lady Mercy Bassey Commends A’Ibom First Lady on GBV Awareness Campaign

-Urges Women to Spread the Message Against GBV

The acting chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Lady Mercy Bassey has commended the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency Martha Udom Emmanuel for leading the awareness campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) in the state.

Lady Bassey gave the commendation while delivery the vote of thanks during the workshop on combating gender-based violence held on Thursday in Uyo, the state capital.

She noted that Mrs Emmanuel’s efforts in the fight against gender-based violence have been a morale booster for women in the state and has resulted in a significant reduction in GBV cases in Akwa Ibom.

She further commended the governor’s wife for her role in ensuring that more women are empowered and actively involved in the leadership and governance of the state, adding that the First Lady’s passion for the growth and development of women stands her out.

Lady Bassey also thanked the organisers of the workshop for their ingenuity, which according to her, will further help women to stand up for themselves or have the courage to seek help when necessary.

The Mkpat Enin council boss therefore urged the women who participated in the workshop to take the message against gender-based violence home and spread it to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

The workshop was organised by Akwa Ibom State Gender Based Violence Management Committee.
