The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Akwa Ibom State Chapter has assured political parties of a free and fair local government election, reaffirming its readiness to work closely with the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) as the October 5, 2024 polls approach.
Our paper reports that, IPAC is a coalition of all registered political parties in Nigeria, created to promote cooperation, democratic principles, and a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking during a press conference held yesterday at Alice Benson Hotel, Uyo, the Chairman of IPAC, Hon. Blessing Umo, lauded Governor Umo Eno for his efforts to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted transparently. She emphasized the Governor’s commitment to mobilizing AKISIEC to ensure the process is free from bias, and highlighted his dedication to democratic principles.
The body, in a press statement read by its Publicity Secretary, Elder Inemesit Akpan, dismissed rumours suggesting AKISIEC could show favouritism, noting that the election guidelines provided by the commission reflect no partiality. IPAC reassured political parties and voters that AKISIEC would maintain neutrality and fairness throughout the election process.
“We urge all eligible voters to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in the elections. Your vote is your voice, and it must be heard,” they said, encouraging voters to be active and confident in the electoral process.
IPAC in Akwa Ibom also warned against electoral violence and malpractice, particularly among the youth. They stressed that the future of democracy in Akwa Ibom depends on peaceful and credible elections.
The organization called on all political parties to respect the rules of engagement and ensure that the elections truly reflect the will of the people.
Meanwhile, the IPAC chairperson had used the occasion to reiterate her organisation’s commitment to working with AKISIEC and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and fair elections. She urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns, and after the elections, prioritize governance that promotes unity and inclusivity.
With the state’s 37th anniversary approaching on September 23rd, IPAC called on Akwa Ibomites to come together in celebration and reflect on the progress achieved under past and present leaders, including the incumbent.
