In a determined move to transform Uyo into a global destination, the Executive Chairman of the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka, has reaffirmed his commitment to actualizing the vision of Governor Umo Eno, particularly in beautifying the capital city as outlined in the A.R.I.S.E agenda.
Addressing journalists, Thursday, during an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing Uyo beautification project, which began at the Atiku/Idoro Road flyover, Rt. Hon. Eka, accompanied by key management staff of the UCCDA, emphasized that making Uyo a prime destination is not just a vision but a mandate enshrined in the laws establishing the Agency.
Hear him: “From the moment I assumed office, I have been dedicated to changing the narrative of UCCDA. Our focus is no longer solely on development control; we are now positioning Uyo to create job opportunities and attract investors, making it a city where people can live, work, and conduct business with ease.”
The ex-Uyo Assemblyman further revealed that the UCCDA’s efforts extend beyond mere infrastructure control to enhancing the city’s appeal as a tourist attraction.
His words: “When we are done, Uyo will stand shoulder to shoulder with other major cities around the world.”
The former Leader of all Councillors in Nigeria also encouraged residents with valuable suggestions to reach out, ensuring that their input is welcomed and considered in the city’s development.
Earlier, to show respect and lead community engagement, Rt. Hon. Eka had paid homage to the Village Head of Ikot Abasi Itam, Eteidung Gabriel Edet Ikpewe, where he briefed the Monarch on the Governor’s intentions and the progress of the project within his jurisdiction.
Eteidung Ikpewe expressed his gratitude to both the Governor and Eka, even as he eulogized them for the initiative and pledging his support, particularly in the clearance of shanties and the relocation of traders encroaching on the roads at Itam Market.
