A renowned socio-political organization in support of the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo Senatorial District Peoples Initiative (USPI), has elected new executive with a scholar from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA Elder Samuel Edet, emerging as Chairman.
Also inaugurated include Hon. Charles Bassey, Deputy Chairman, Mr Otobong Edemidiong, Secretary General, Hon. Bassey Bassey, Assistant Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Titus, Director of Finance, while Dr. Ubong Iyoho is the Director of Publicity.
Others are Hon. Akaninyene Essien, Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Victor Okon, Director of Welfare/Protocol, Mr Samuel Efiok, Director of Security/Logistics, Lady Abasifreke Hanson, Director of Women Affairs and Mr. Solomon Eyo, Director of Media/ICT.
In his address, the Chairman of the group, Elder. Samuel Edet, Ph.D, described Governor Udom Emmanuel’s performance as “impressive and a wholesome development”.
“When Governor Emmanuel came to office, his first recognition was that Uyo City roads had drainage difficulty. His reaction was swift. The often flooded Nsikak Eduok Avenue was quickly addressed in recognition of the fact that a free flow of traffic is a panacea to the easy movement of goods and services. Today, flooding in Nsikak Eduok Avenue is a thing of the past.” Elder Edet said.
On industrialization, he stated that “As of today, not less than 16 industrial concerns have been attracted to the State, including the Syringe Manufacturing Company, Metering Company, Fertilizer Blending Factory and the AKEES Toothpick Factory.”
Elder Edet noted that “to ensure that Akwa Ibom becomes a destination of choice with access to people from across the globe, the government established the Ibom Air. This has revolutionalized air transportation in the country while bringing revenue to the state.”
On road construction, the USPI chairman said “road projects have received a major boost. The three senatorial zones have received the imprimatur of the Udom Emmanuel road construction efforts, a major departure from the era when roads were only built in Uyo or in just a section of the State.”
He also pointed out that “agriculture is a priority concern of the current administration with hitherto wasted lands in Ini/Ikono now used for the cultivation of rice, cassava, tomatoes and onions.”
On the state of emergency on education, Elder Edet agreed that
“education is no longer left to the caprice or negligence of parents, to chance, or confined to the children of wealthy citizens. Education is free and compulsory for all children from primary school to the senior secondary school level. In addition to this, government pays examination fees for the students writing their final examinations. To enhance the quality of the learning process, the Udom Emmanuel administration recently announced the recruitment of teachers for both the primary schools and the secondary schools.”
He also asserted that “peace brings about growth and development. Since the advent of the Udom Emmanuel administration, the state which hitherto was the hotbed for kidnapping, politically motivated killings and other violent crimes have now known peace. This is probably because as they say, when the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. The government hands over governance to God every month and God has consistently listened to the supplications of the people hence the peace that prevails in the state today..”
“As the rains are due to set in, the Udom Emmanuel administration is revisiting the IBB Avenue flood control project in the state. At a recent visit to the project site, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Charles Udoh, assured of timely delivery of the project.” He added.
