An Entrepreneurial Expert Mr. Joseph Bassey has advised the Youths and young entrepreneurs in Akwa Ibom State to take advantage of quality Entrepreneurial education, as provided by Governor Udom’ Emmanuel’s led administration, to equip themselves with adequate knowledge as prospective change agents in the sector.
Mr. Bassey expressed these views during the November edition of the Dakkada Networking Experience (DNE) which took place today, 26th November,2021.
Speaking on the topic, “ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION AS A TOOL IN REDUCING UNEMPLOYMENT”, Mr. Bassey encouraged youths to be proactive by conceiving a world where they don’t necessarily have to wait for white collar jobs from government, but take advantage of the fast developing technologies, as there are lot of opportunities that could be harnessed if they are sensitive to them.
Speaking further, he expressed the need for young Entrepreneurs to be educated on how to pitch or communicate their business ideas and urged them to take such trainings as offered by the state government through the My Entrepreneurship Goals Programme seriously as this could serve as what determines their level of partnership with global investors.
According to him, “we cannot be so dependent on government that we forget the need to invest in business; what is key in reducing unemployment is having youths who can stand and develop interest in becoming self dependent by developing business.”
Speaking earlier, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Entrepreneurial Development, Mrs. Meflyn Anwana expressed the need for Akwa Ibom Youths to participate in Entrepreneurial trainings in the State as this will help in exposing them to information technologies , and grant them the opportunity to redefine standards in all sectors of the economy.
The November edition of the DNE also featured a pitch deck competition session, where five participants were given opportunities to pitch their business ideas for a chance to win one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) in business grants. At the end of the competition, Victoria Nnsewo, an entrepreneur who is into children fashion emerged winner.
In her response, Nnsewo expressed her happiness and gratitude to Governor Udom Emmanuel for creating a platform through which young Akwa Ibom Entrepreneurs can actualize their dreams.
She promised to use the money positively in adding value to her business as she had always prepared for such opportunity.
