….. Tasks more collaboration with relevant government agencies
Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Rep. Onofiok Luke has called for more collaboration between the National Judicial Institute, NJI and relevant government agencies for the continuous education of Judicial officers. He gave the charge at the Opening Ceremony of the 16th International Maritime Seminar for Judges organised by Nigerian Shippers’ Council under the auspices of Federal Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with National Judicial Council in Abuja, today.
Luke who was a Special Guest of Honour while delivering a goodwill message, tasked NJI to partner with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and Nigeria Content Development Monitoring Board, NCDMB to help judicial officers have deeper understanding to interrogate the issues in the Petroleum Industry Act. He also called for same collaboration with National Electricity Regulatory Agency on Energy issues especially pricing and franchising.
He commended the Executive Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Shippers’ Council, Mr Emmanuel Jime for the laudable programmes he has been able to sustain since coming on board.
The Lawmaker assured judicial officers of the commitment of the House of Representatives to ensuring better welfare for them.
He used the opportunity to congratulate the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on his emergence as the country’s number one judicial officer and prayed God to grant him wisdom in the discharge of his duties
The event which was chaired by Justice Rhodes Vivour Rtd had in attendance the CJN as Special Guest, Chief Justices of Sierra Leone, representatives of Chief Justices of Ghana, Kenya and Gambia, Justices of Supreme Courts of Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Sierra Leone, Justices of Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia and Sierra Leone, Judges of Federal High Courts, Legal Practitioners, operators in the maritime sector and Administrator of National Judicial Council.
