SANITARY LANDFILL: WORK BEGINS AT UYO VILLAGE ROAD DUMPSITE

In compliance with the directive of the State Governor, His Excellency Mr. Udom Emmanuel, the Akwa Ibom State Government has started the construction of a sanitary landfill at the Uyo village road dumpsite.

An inspection visit to the site by the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Prince Ikim in company of newsmen earlier today during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise reveals that work had begun in earnest as excavation has been carried out in certain parts of the dumpsite in order to pave way for civil construction while the laying of laterite has also commenced.

Prince Ikim explains that upon completion of construction, the dumpsite will be fenced round to ward off undesirable elements as recycling of waste will commence in earnest while emphasizing that the agency had already began the process of bioremediation at the site and gave assurances of prompt delivery within the stipulated timeframe of the project.

He urged members of the public to always adhere to environmental best practices and reiterated the commitment of his agency to prompt and effective delivery of her mandate.
