Scholarships: AKWA IBOM GOVT ASSURES PUBLIC OF TRANSPARENCY IN SELECTION PROCESS

 

 

With less than 4 days to a close of the online application, Akwa Ibom State government has assured the public of absolute transparency in the selection process of students for the undergraduate scholarships scheme.

The Honourable commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet gave the assurance on Wednesday during a telephone interview on Ibom Arise, a live radio program on XL 106.9FM, Uyo.

Speaking on the program, the Education Boss disclosed that despite the ASUU strike in federal universities, about 1,125 applications were so far received as at Tuesday August 2, 2022. She warned against handwritten applications while calling on eligible students to visit the website www.moe.akwaibomstate.gov.ng and fill the online application form before August 7, 2022.

Reiterating that only 500 indigent students will be beneficiaries of the over 100million naira scheme, Etiebet further maintained that once the online application is closed on Sunday 7th August, transparent modalities will be communicated to the shortlisted apllicants for further actions.

On allocation of slots to top government officials and critical stakeholders, Etiebet who doubles as the head of the scholarships implementation committee, described such rumours and insinuations as false. Noting that names of shortlisted applicants will be published, the Education Boss stressed that the committee will strictly adhere to the eligibility for the scholarships earlier published, in order to ensure that only the targetted students are the qualified.

Etiebet who also said it was the resolution of the State executive Council to start the scholarship program with only University students, admonished Students from colleges of Education, Polytechnics and other tertiary institutions not to loose hope as plans are underway to accommodate their interest, subsequently. She however, assured that the scholarship program will be a Continuum.
