Akwa Ibom State government has recorded enviable success in the environment sector and has consequently attracted the curiosity of spectators from around the country, the recent one coming from the far northern flank of Nigeria.
Upon this, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Obong Prince Ikim, said governor Udom Emmanuel is the source of his success since being appointed as AKSEPWMA chairman two years ago.
IKim divulged this to a delegation of Northern Youths Progressive Forum to quench their compulsive quest for the secrete behind the success power AKSEPWMA, whom they described as “super performing agency”, during a courtesy call and award conferment on the chairman, on Monday.
IKim narrated to the delegation that he took over a bald agency with no blueprint, no equipment and nothing to work with. But with the support of the governor, the agency has emerged as a result-oriented and best in the country.
“We return the glory first to God; next, to our dear governor, HE Dcn. Udom Emmanuel, not just for having the political will to reconstitute that agency after many years of dormancy, but for his resolve in continually harnessing every needed machinery for its functionality. He is the secrete of our success. He does not joke with environment-related issues.”
IKim further inspired them with his mantra that “it is a man that makes an office, not an office that makes a man”. One, if not the sole reason people fail in their offices is as a result of unnecessary expectations they have of the offices, IKim said .
“The Office does not make a man, a man makes the office. our mindset has always bodered on what gain we can make of the office, not what we should do for the office. That is wrong! That is why people fail in various offices whenever they are called to service.”
Charging them on his philosophy of prudunce as another factor of his success power, IKim said there is what is termed “from point of coin to point of profit.” That is my philosophy. First I forget the gains, I seek to show working, build trust and show capacity, then success follow. That is why we are here where we are. When we assumed office, we were very judicious with things and we have sustained the tempo.
