The University of Uyo Alumni Association has reiterated its resolve to continue to encourage academic excellence among students of the institution through scholarship awards and prizes for best graduating students in all the faculties of the University.
The National President of the association, Barr. Onofiok Luke made this known during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held last Friday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
By this arrangement, the best graduating student in each faculty is to be awarded a cash prize of N200,000 each graduating year.
The Alumni Association pledged to continue to give back to the University as well as well as initiate programmes that will create positive impact for members and students.
According to Luke, to actualize the association’s vision for the University of Uyo, NEC set up some strategic committees, namely: National Legal Council, Convocation Committee, Budget Committee, Education Development Committee, Diaspora Development Committee, Project Development Committee, Sports Development Committee and Welfare Committee.
The Uniuyo Alumni NEC also appointed Mrs Amayo Atope as Secretary General and Mr. Sunday Umanah as Assistant Secretary General. This followed the resignation of the former Secretary and the demise of the former Assistant Secretary.
The University of Uyo Alumni Association congratulated one of its own, Pastor Umo Eno on his emergence as Governor of Akwa Ibom State and also felicitated with other members who are elected or appointed into various positions across the country.
The association called on Alumni members to be prepared to join in the task of making the University of Uyo better and bigger.
