In Akwa Ibom State today, poverty and it’s accompanying suffering is rising to a state of human crisis. Hunger has reached a level of an epidemic and can be noted on faces and reduced body weight of citizens.
The State is presently on the second highest index of NBS poverty rating in Nigeria. What a paradox! We are so rich, yet so poor. The past almost 8 years under Udom Emmanuel have been hell on earth. So what is the hope?
Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) has promised to tackle poverty headlong by setting up a N50 billion Poverty Trust Fund. His government will contribute 50% of the fund to make money accessible to the masses for ease of small businesses.
It is not flattering to say his Positive Impact Agenda blueprint shows that he is set to fight the menace of poverty. OBA has taken time to plan for the benefit of the people.
Over the years he has changed the lives of the underprivileged citizens positively. Besides generosity being his lifestyle, he demonstrated by his efforts while he served as a former commissioner that poverty should not be tolerated in the midst of plenty.
His capacity in terms funds management for common good of the citizens as well as his benevolent lifestyle is exceptional.
OBA has also spoken of intensive trailing of our youths in 21st Century market demanding skills; developing industrial clusters, reducing tax burden and multiple taxation; among others.
Indeed, to address poverty and discontentment in the State, OBA’s blueprint has set out robust plans to generate wealth by giving government grants through co-operative societies to boost trades, employment and empowerment programmes.
Surely, as a governor he will give what belongs to Caeser to Caeser, instead of diverting what belongs to the citizens into his personal pocket or lavished outside the state.
Under him, viable cottage industries will be established and situated in the federal constituencies to positively absorb the unemployed. Creative ideas in crafts making, fashion designing, music, movie making etc. will be appreciated and supported with reasonable funds to expand and excel to prominence.
With the YPP’s plan to subsidize health insurance and award robust student’s bursary, money spent by families on medical expenses and education will be reduced on these items and reserves used instead for household upkeep and family needs. This strategy will help increase personal and household income thereby reducing poverty.
It is important to vote for OBA who has the capacity and experience to fight poverty. He is a uniquely people-friendly, generous and result-oriented personality needed to chase poverty, unemployment and selfishness away from the leadership class.
The 2023 governorship election is about the unique benevolent personality called OBA. He is a ticket out of poverty and into the prosperity lane from 29th May,2023.
# Vote OBA; Vote YPP; Vote the fresh, green leaves!
